North Carolina Skiing...Truly an Experience on another level! As the most visited ski website in the Eastern United States, we have received numerous inquiries such as "There's MOUNTAINS in North Carolina?" or "There's skiing in North Carolina? You're joking, right?" Even some longtime skiers are surprised to find out that the HIGHEST MOUNTAINS ON THE EAST COAST are located in the state of NORTH CAROLINA! That's right. Higher than the Alleghany Mountains of West Virginia, and higher than the mountains of Vermont! Ski Beech, located atop Beech Mountain in North Carolina is officially the highest elevation ski area at over 5,506'! These kinds of elevations created COLD temperatures. In fact, the mercury often drops to below zero! Wind chills are often in the minus 20-40° range! The crest of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Eastern Continental Divide meet near Boone, North Carolina which forms the scenic terrain that is home to the HUB of Southern Skiing. Many people find it amazing to hear that there are four ski resorts within a short 15-20 drive of Blowing Rock and Boone! If you are reading this story, why not plan a trip soon and experience the thrill and heart-lifting, awe inspiring feeling that comes with visiting the mountains ...and clicking on some skis or a snowboard and aiming down a mountain! PLANNING AHEAD WILL MAKE YOUR EXPERIENCE EVEN BETTER! Before hopping in your car, make sure that you have everything that you need to get the most enjoyment from the experience! Make up a list of clothing and equipment. Don't forget the little things that are so important, such as a hat, scarf, goggles, gloves and good quality socks. Dressing in layers is best, so carry plenty of clothing because it's often much colder than you think it will be! If you're a beginner or if you're coming to the mountain to ski for the first time...plan on renting your equipment here. It is easier than lugging your equipment from off the mountain. Simply drive to the resort of your choice and rent the equipment there are the resort or at any of the ski and snowboard shops that are located near the entrances to the resorts. It's simply easier. Another benefit to renting here is...what happens if you rent skis from off the mountain and something breaks or your boots are too small? You're stuck! If you rent them here...you can always exchange equipment in a matter of minutes! HAVE NO FEAR! Skiing is easier for some than others, but it's always more fun if you'll simply relax and let yourself go! Don't be concerned over why others are flying around you. When you fall...sit for a second and look around you as others are falling as well! There's always someone willing to lend you a hand to get up and just remember that we're all on the slopes for the same reason ... we love to feel the cold wind on our face and the snow beneath us! Make it a point to head to the mountains and experience what we all will tell you is the greatest feeling on earth! SKI TRIP CHECKLIST! 1.
