The Department of Transportation has now created a very helpful site to assist people with finding information about road conditions throughout Western North Carolina. We would also suggest that you VIEW OUR LIVE WEB CAMS of the area, and visit the front page of our website during inclement weather...and if we are having significant snowfall (more than 3-4") then you should be prepared with a 4WD vehicle and/or have snow chains. New SkiNC Interactive Map! You can click on any of the counties within the map below and that will open the NC DOT's website to provide you with any up to date information regarding inclement weather or construction hazards! Once you're done with the DOT maps, simply close that browser window and you'll be back here! Helpful Hint: By default the DOT website shows "incident report". You can click on "Adverse Weather" after you click on your choice of county and it will provide actual weather related road conditions. (You may need to disable any popup killers to open additional browser window.) Also we have compiled the most viewed road conditions within helpful text links below the map.
